This natural swimming pool is a real sun trap, enclosed within a beautiful stone wall, over which the water cascades at one point. The wall provides privacy, shelter, reflected warmth, it has the added benefit of reducing traffic noise from the busy main road behind it.
The clients, or at least one of them, swims in the pond every day, excluding winter months. The pond also doubles as a beautiful feature to look at.
LARGE NATURAL POND 2006
BRIEF: To refurbish and naturalise old curling pond, the pond has always been here, it has no liner and is naturally occurring, it had straight timber edges and utility bridges.

STAGE 1 Major dredging of silt with excavator and tracked dumpers, silt dumped in appropriate area on site to dry out and be used elsewhere.
STAGE 2 Excavation, re shaping of pond to a more natural, aesthetically pleasing form. Excavation for new cascades.

STAGE 3 Construction of new cascades, using mixed glacial boulders ranging in size from 5 ton to 50kg, we had to take great care working around mature specimen trees.
STAGE 4 Installation of bridges by Coulsons bridges, large 11 metre high foamng jet fountain, and floating island with built in wild fowl accommodation.
STAGE 5 Planting and commissioning with annual maintenance programme.
